Start a weekly patrol to check for leaking school taps, bubblers or toilets.
Investigate any water leaks - read and record water meters at the end
of the day when school activity has ceased, i.e. after the cleaners have
finished, and before school the next day, i.e. before the cleaners start
work. Repeat this process regularly to see if there is any significant use
of water when there are no people on the campus.
Develop a campaign to educate students and staff about being waterwise.
Install vandal-proof handles to all external taps that are not used for drinking purposes.
Turn off automatic urinals after school, on weekends and during holidays.
If toilets are single flush, consider placing a brick in the cistern to reduce the flush volume.
Place Waterwise stickers near hand basins and sinks, i.e. Every drop counts!
Include a regular section in the school newsletter providing updates on the success of the Waterwise program and the activities the students that have led the students to become waterwise.
