Green tips energy

Energy efficiency

  1. Develop an Energywise action plan as part of the School Environmental Management Plan (SEMP).
  2. Integrate EnergyWise environmental education resources into the school curriculum.
  3. Switch off classroom lights, fans, air-conditioners, computers and all non-essential electrical equipment during breaks and immediately at the end of the school day.
  4. Purchase high 'energy star' equipment and appliances.
  5. Install timers on hot water urns and turn off this appliance at the end of the school day and during holidays.
  6. Include a story in the school newsletter encouraging staff and students to switch off appliances, lights, fans and other electrical equipment when not in use.
  7. Develop promotional materials to encourage energy-efficient practices.
  8. Check electricity bills regularly and monitor energy use.
  9. Nominate a staff member to help set up energy-efficient practices and programs.
  10. Discuss energy efficiency ideas and problems at staff meetings.
