Year of Environmental Sustainability Regional Symposiums

One of the key goals for the Year of Environmental Sustainability (YES) is to encourage schools to showcase their environmental sustainability outcomes and actions to other schools in their region.

The YES regional symposiums will provide opportunities for students to share their sustainable schools stories through a process known as "kids teaching kids". Schools can use the YES Challenges as the basis for their presentations, however this is optional. Teachers will also be invited to participate in professional development workshops on environmental education for sustainability in the afternoon of the same day of most of the YES regional symposiums.

Through the YES Regional Symposiums, one school in each region will be selected to represent their region at the State YES Symposium as ClimateSmart Environmental Ambassadors. Five students and two teachers from the same school will be selected as the ClimateSmart Environmental Ambassador team. These ambassadors will attend the International Kids Teaching Kids Coastal Conference and give their presentations to over 450 students from across Queensland, Australia and around the world. All costs for travel, accommodation and teacher release for the accompanying teachers will be covered.
