Bunya to the Bay

The 2010 Bunya to the Bay Eco Adventure is a 16-day hike, bike, canoe and boat journey in August-September for a group of 30 River Ambassadors. Journeying from the source of the Brisbane River to Fort Lytton, the Ambassadors will be in regular contact with expert mentors as they explore the management of our waterways and their value.

During their expedition, students will participate in a range of activities including water quality monitoring, plant and weed assessment, film and photography, writing and news reporting, fauna monitoring, including endangered species, and recreational management.

An Indigenous River Ambassador will be entrusted to deliver a message stick from the Wakka Wakka people to the Quandamooka people of the coast, and an Indigenous artist will mentor and accompany the River Ambassadors throughout the expedition.

The story of their journey and their answers to the key question: 'What is the future of our waterways?' will be presented to state and local governments at the completion of the journey.

All schools are encouraged to detail their own projects on water issues, participate in designated chat rooms and observe the 'virtual trip' on the Learning Place website External Link .
