Program Logic

Over the last decade, Program Logic Adobe PDF document 327k mapping has been taken up in organisational strategic planning, public policy management and performance improvement practice. It also assists in the design and planning of an evaluation. Logic models are used to map and understand the elements that make up a project or program and their relationships to each other. In this way, critical issues that drive the development of the project or program can be identified and key questions to be asked in an evaluation can be outlined.

Program Logic is the preferred methodology to frame evaluations undertaken by the department. A template Adobe PDF document 737k is available to assist evaluation teams to generate their model.

Customised Program Logic modelling sessions of three (3) hours are available to evaluation teams to assist them to develop a systematic, visual representation of programs and their evaluation requirements. This service supports evaluation teams to develop a coherent map of the resources required, activities to undertake, outputs to be achieved and intended outcomes of the project or program during the design phase of the evaluation.

During this session a draft Program Logic model will be developed with accompanying key performance indicators (KPIs) and draft core evaluation questions. This is also a useful process to ensure all key stakeholders have a shared understanding of the project or program's objectives.

Evaluation teams should budget for this session within the resources required for their evaluation.
