Ministerial Portfolio Statements are the primary source of information for the hearings of the Parliamentary Estimates Committees. These hearings examine the funding provided in the state budget to each ministerial portfolio, and take place following the presentation of the State Budget.
Ministerial Portfolio Statements are also used by Members of Parliament, the media, the public and other interested parties for obtaining information on key strategies and prospective outcomes, and financial performance, of individual Queensland government agencies.
Ministerial Portfolio Statements are forward-looking in their focus and provide predominantly budgeted financial and non-financial performance information for a new financial year. In this way, they complement agency annual reports, which document actual performance (including audited financial statements) for the financial year just completed.
