The department aims to provide a safe and secure environment for all students, staff and volunteers who work or participate in state schools, TAFEs and workplaces.
Effective planning and management of emergencies helps minimise trauma and distress to those within schools and workplaces, and allows teaching and learning to be maintained or resumed as a priority.
It is important that schools, TAFEs, early childhood education and care centres and their communities remain alert to potential disasters such as cyclones, storms and other adverse weather events.
There are number of useful websites on natural disasters, current conditions and how to best prepare for such events.
Information for DETE staff has been collated to assist those directly affected by natural disasters or those returning to communities that have been affected by natural disasters.
For information about locations of early education and care services, which may be affected by natural disasters, please call the Early Childhood Information Service on 1800 637 711.
If you are interested in the status of C&K services, please call 1800 177 092.
In the event of a natural disaster, please contact your local TAFE institute
to find out if classes have been affected.
Apprentices, trainees or employers with queries about how natural disasters may impact on apprenticeships or traineeships can contact Apprenticeships Info on 1800 210 210.
The Department has developed a series of resources for parents, carers and school staff to help children deal with the emotional effects of natural disasters.
