Natural disasters and closed educational facilities

Closed educational facilities as at 9:00am on 27 February 2015:

The decision to open or close schools and other facilities include factors such as current and predicted weather conditions, river and stream levels as well as road and access conditions.

The safety of students, teachers and community members is the department's highest priority. During weather events, parents and staff should monitor regular radio reports in affected areas. They are also advised to listen to updated weather forecasts and emergency services directives regarding the safety of road travel.

Concerned parents can also contact their principal or local education office for updated information about access to their children's school and updated classroom arrangements.

During weather events, teachers should contact their school or regional office for additional advice on school opening or closing arrangements.

Catholic and Independent Schools

All Catholic schools and colleges in Rockhampton, Gracemere and Yeppoon, will be open on Wednesday 25 February with the exception of:

The following schools will be open but do not have power and services and will be restricted—parents are advised to use their discretion:

Uniforms are not required, students are asked to bring non-perishable food and their own water. Students with medical conditions are strongly advised to remain at home where possible owing to restricted services.

Early Childhood Education and Care Services

The following ECEC services have reported that they are closed. This information is current as at 9:00am Friday 27 February, 2015. Parents are strongly encouraged to contact their service provider directly for more up-to-date information about service closures and re-openings.

To obtain reliable, up to date information regarding a specific education and care service, parents are strongly encouraged to contact their service directly. Families using family day care are encouraged to contact their child's educator for details regarding closures.

Please note: The closure list is based on information provided by Approved Providers of centre based education and care services who have notified the department (as the Regulatory Authority) of their service closure as a result of a natural disaster or weather event.

Approved Providers make the decision to close and re-open their education and care service/s and are only required to notify the department within 24 hours of the service closing.
