

Murrumba State Secondary College, north of Brisbane, opened its doors to welcome students in Years 7 and 8 on Monday 23 January, the first day of the 2012 school year.
Murrumba was making history as the first state secondary school in Queensland to pilot a move of Year 7 into high school as part of the Flying Start for Queensland Children education reforms.
Together with Principal Paul Pengelly - the Queensland Premier Anna Bligh and Education Minister Cameron Dick welcomed the 340 students of Murrumba to high school at an official opening held to kick off the school year.
The history-making group of 155 Year 7 students are taking the first step on the path to enacting major reforms to Queensland's education system.
Students at another 19 state secondary schools will pilot Year 7 ahead of the statewide move for all Year 7 students in 2015.
The Flying Start initiative includes a number of important reforms that will affect students in Queensland over the coming years.
