The Learn Earn Legend! Year 12 Destinations initiative is a joint funding initiative of the Department of Education and Training (DET), the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment, and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), the Department of Communities (DoCs) and the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI). The Queensland Indigenous Education Consultative Committee (QIECC) is also a project partner.
It aims to increase retention rates of every Indigenous Year 12 student and then to provide support and assistance for successful transition from schooling to further education, training and/or meaningful employment. Students are case managed throughout the final year of schooling and then for six months post schooling during the transition process.
Under the initiative, DET has engaged Indigenous Pathways Coordinators (IPCs) in each region to develop the case management process and to build strong partnerships with other education sectors, training and tertiary education providers, industry and employers, and parents and community. They also work closely with those stakeholders engaged specifically to provide services and support to the Year 12 and post schooling cohort with the aim of 'packaging' support to the Indigenous students involved. The School to Work team oversees the initiative.
