Focus Schools Next Steps initiative

The Focus Schools Next Steps initiative complements the Council of Australian Government's Closing the Gap agenda to improve outcomes for Indigenous Australians, and specifically supports schools' implementation of the national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Action Plan 2010-2014.

The Australian Government will provide short-term funding, totalling $30 million to the end of 2013, to augment the work of up to 101 focus schools Adobe PDF document nationally.

Schools participating in the initiative will receive support to a level that will enable them to quickly implement approaches to lift school attendance, classroom engagement and educational achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
