Indigenous Youth Leadership Project
Indigenous Youth Leadership is a developmental process to grow a collective youth leadership culture in schools in Central Southern Queensland. The process develops the leadership skills in Indigenous youth to enable them to take the initiative to actively construct a positive future for themselves and future students.
The goals of the project are to:
- Develop the students' aspirations by nurturing leadership skills and behaviours, reinforcing cultural identity, goal setting and listening to Indigenous mentors providing motivational, personalized addresses that shared their life and learning journey for success.
- Expose the students to a rigorous program that equips them with the skills and knowledge required to successfully navigate their future pathways to achieving career, study, training and personal success.
- Engage students in a range of activities that are hands on, developing team-building capability, self-belief and reinforcing cultural identity.
- Give students the opportunity to meet, network and make connections with other Indigenous students from their local area.
- Form cluster groups and/or project teams with clear action plans to deliver real outcomes.
- Create a mentoring program for youth by youth.
