Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives in Schools (EATSIPS)

State-wide implementation: EATSIPS is a core initiative of the Closing the Gap Education Strategy and a major responsibility of the Department as stated in the Queensland Government Reconciliation Action Plan - Queensland state schools, regions and central office are working together to meet this deadline. EATSIPS is focused on the embedding of Indigenous perspectives across the four action areas; Personal and Professional Accountabilities; Community Engagement; Organisational Environment; Curriculum and Pedagogy.

EATSIPS is a multi-pronged approach consisting of; (i) EATSIPS implementation officers (ii) EATSIPS document guide (iii) EATSIPS Online
  1. Implementation; Project officers have been appointed to work with regions and schools to implement EATSIPS across the state including local professional development.
  2. EATSIPS document: A revised and updated EATSIPS framework is available on the Department's website and One School website. The framework has been reviewed in consultation with community, teachers, principals and other stakeholders.
  3. EATSIPS Online; PLC - Professional Learning Community - six week course. The PLC is a closed site that will contain high quality resources, for example, units of work that authentically embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, and case studies of how schools and local communities successfully work together in the process of embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. It aims to provide on-line access to individuals, school communities and Indigenous community members that are unable to participate in face to face professional development(iii) EATSIPS Online; PLC - Professional Learning Community - six week course. Reporting twice a year a state wide survey is conducted to gauge the phases of embeddedness across all state schools. Schools are on target to meet QRAP goals in exposing all schools to EATSIPS across the state.
