Maka Ya

Maka, pronounced 'marker', is an Aboriginal word meaning 'message stick'. Ya is a western Torres Strait Islander word meaning 'language' or 'word'.

Maka Ya is the Department of Education and Training's Indigenous Vocational Education and Training (VET) magazine.

Maka Ya is produced biannually and aims to highlight success stories of Indigenous Queenslanders in VET, promote news, programs and events, and support the recruitment and retention of Indigenous students.
