NAIDOC Week 2009 Calendar of Events

June 26th Cultural celebration day (School community only)
Time: 9:00am - 1:30pm

A day planned in conjunction with members of the local Indigenous community to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and increase awareness of this culture within the school community. Students will take part in a day of art, craft, story telling, food tasting and Indigenous games. A member of the local Indigenous community will open the day.
July 3rd TAFE Golf Bro-Am (Central Queensland Institute of TAFE)
Time: 7:30am — 1:00pm

Trophies are donated by local business houses as well as CQITAFE. It is a 4 Ball Ambrose event and is limited to 20 teams.
5th NAIDOC Week 2009 (5th — 12th)
The theme for NAIDOC Week in 2009 is Honouring our Elders, Nurturing our Youth.

6th Official Launch of SEQ NAIDOC
Time: Doors open at 8:30am
Location: Main Auditorium, Brisbane City Hall
Cairns NAIDOC Opening
Time: 10:00am — 1:30pm
Location: Cairns City Place
The day will start off with a Welcome to Country, followed by the raising of the Aboriginal, Torres Strait and Australian flags. There will be guest speakers and entertainment throughout the day.
NAIDOC Mural Painting
Time: 9:00am — 4:00pm
Location: Stocklands Earlville, Cairns — Ishmael Road Car Park Wall.
Stocklands Earlville would like to celebrate NAIDOC week by inviting children to participate in the painting of a NAIDOC themed mural.
7th Logan City NAIDOC Celebrations
Time: 10am - 3:00pm
Location: Logan Gardens, Civic Parade, Woodridge.

Tjaupkai NAIDOC Day
Time: 9:00am — 5:00pm
Location: Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park
Western Arterial Road, Caravonica
Cost: $5.00 Adult; $3.00 Students; Children >14 free
Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park is holding a special NAIDOC celebration day. This day will include the normal 'Tjapukai by Day ' show, Information Stalls, Sporting Guest Stars, Kids Corner, Traditional Lunch and Arts and Crafts Stalls.

Elders of the local Githabul people and members of the local Indigenous community will be welcomed by TAFE staff to the Dragon Street Campus with lunch from 12noon, 9 July.

Renowned Indigenous artist John O 'Dea is a special guest, and entertainment is provided by the talented Leroy Brown with his didgeridoo and singer Ranetta Cairo. Photographic and vision opportunities are recommended during the didgeridoo performance - around 12.30pm
10th Musgrave Park Family Fun Day (Gold Coin Donation)
Time: 9:00am — 5:00pm
Location: Musgrave Park, Cordelia Street, South Brisbane
There will be contemporary and traditional dances, Indigenous artwork and food as well as free rides and activities for the kids.

The department of Education and Training will present an interactive display highlighting Indigenous Education and Training
Family Day Stall (Central Queensland Institute of TAFE)

The Family Day contribution is a TAFE stall with sample bags, and a staff member dressed as a clown who twists balloons into animal shapes.
National NAIDOC Awards Ceremony and Ball
Time: 6:30pm - 12:00am
Location: Great Hall, Brisbane Covention Centre
The National NAIDOC Gala Ball and Awards Ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The NAIDOC Ball features entertainment from leading Indigenous performers and the presentation of a number of prestigious awards to acknowledge the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Australian society.

NAIDOC March
Muster Point Munro Martin Park, Florence Street side.

March Start 9:30am
March will leave Munro Martin Park and proceed down Grafton Street to Spence Spence Street to the Fogarty Park site on the Esplanade.
NAIDOC in the Park Community Day
Time: 10:00am - 6:00pm
Location: Fogarty Park, Esplanade.
The day will commence with the arrival of the marchers, followed by a Welcome to Country, speakers, information and Indigenous business stalls, entertainment, food and entertainment throughout the day including the participants of the 3 Day Music Workshops.
11th IWN Family Fun Day and BBQ
Time: 1:00pm -4:00pm
Location: BBQ site near Muddies Playground.
The Indigenous Women 's Network (IWN) will be hosting a family fun day and BBQ for indigenous families. The day will include games and competitions and a free BBQ for those that attend.
NAIDOC Dinner
Time: 6:30pm — late
Tickets: $70.00 on sale now.
Location: Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, Western Arterial Road, Caravonica

Dinner and dancing. The evening will include a buffet dinner including Kup Murri, the Tjapukai Aboriginal Dancers, Torres Strait Dancers and live band.
