Who are we?

The Indigenous Partnerships Unit develops, coordinates and influences policy and strategic initiatives focused on increasing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people across the Department of Education, Training and Employment.

The Indigenous Partnerships Unit undertakes this role primarily by:

Developing, monitoring and reporting on the Department s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education, Training and Employment Action Plan
Undertaking strategic Indigenous partnerships role for the Department with state-wide, national and cross sector stakeholders
Researching, identifying and promoting opportunities for innovative approaches to improving outcomes for Indigenous early childhood and schooling students
Influencing and/or monitoring international, national, and state Indigenous education policies and research that may impact on Indigenous education in Queensland
Undertaking specific strategic state-wide and national initiatives focusing on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education
Supporting the secretariats of the Queensland Indigenous Education Consultation Committee and the national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Working Group.

The department works closely with partners including the Queensland Indigenous Education Consultative Committee

, the Stronger Smarter Institute

and the Torres Strait Islanders Regional Education Council

to progress change. The department publishes a quarterly newsletter Closing the Gap for parents, educators, community members and all people with an interest in improving the education and training of Queensland's first peoples. Subscribe here.

Expressions of interest for QIECC membership

The Department of Education, Training and Employment is seeking suitably qualified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders to serve on the Queensland Indigenous Education Consultative Committee (QIECC). Appointments will be for up to a three year term.

Call for input on new Indigenous action plan

The Queensland Government is keen to consult with a range of key stakeholders, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and organisations, on the development of a new action plan to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders. A discussion paper

Remote Indigenous Professional Development

The Remote Indigenous Professional Development (RIPD) project promotes the use of Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia in early childhood education and care services that cater for predominantly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in remote, very remote and rural areas of Queensland.
