NAIDOC Week

"The First Australians, whose lands, winds and waters we all now share... Celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queensland."

The Department of Education and Training honours the traditional owners of the land on which we teach and learn and the Elders who possess and pass on their knowledge to the younger generations.

In our schools and training institutes, teachers, teacher aides and support staff, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, nurture Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and recognise the contributions of Indigenous Australians.

To promote and showcase our wide range of education, training and support programs for Indigenous school and VET students, the Department will participate at the annual NAIDOC Week Family Day at Musgrave Park in Brisbane on the Friday.

NAIDOC Week celebrations are part of the Department's commitment to acknowledge, recognise and value Indigenous histories and cultures, nurture and value Indigenous leadership and staff, and embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in all aspects of schooling and training.

We are focused on closing the gap in outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students and to make a measurable improvement in workforce capacity.
