Employment

The department is seeking teachers who have expertise, enthusiasm and the capacity to teach in dynamic cultural environments. We have a targeted strategy to recruit and select quality teachers from a range of teaching backgrounds to work together to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Our clear mandate is focusing on students achieving and excelling through statewide curriculum and standards within challenging remote and Indigenous contexts.

Under the Partners for Success strategy, teachers are no longer transferred or appointed to Identified Indigenous school communities without having first made an application to our selection processes. We have a range of incentives for teachers who live and work in Indigenous community schools including the Remote Area Incentive Scheme that provides financial and systemic support on a sliding scale across the state according to remoteness.

For teachers in the identified Indigenous schools we offer comprehensive pre-appointment induction programs and access to resources that tailor to in-service professional development initiatives.
