From Mines to Minds: A Queensland Education Trust
On 23 November 2011 the Premier released a proposal to use the state's resources to help generate a wealth of education and training opportunities for the next generation.
From Mines to Minds: A Queensland Education Trust (PDF, 848KB) outlines the State Government's suggestion to take 50 per cent of royalties from Liquefied Natural Gas projects and establish a multi-billion dollar Queensland Education Trust.
The government's proposed Queensland Education Trust could be established in different ways including:
- Individual Trust Accounts for Education - an individual endowment that would mean every child born on or after 1 July 2012 would have a nest egg valued between $7800 and $9500 when they turn 18.
- Dedicated Education Fund - an investment fund where the proceeds are reinvested by government in education and training initiatives beyond the basics throughout the schooling years and potentially beyond.
The consultation closed on Friday 17 Feburary 2012.
