

The Queensland Government provides funding for long day care and kindergarten services operating as approved services under the Education and Care Services National Law (Queensland ) Act 2011 to provide approved kindergarten programs. In regards to the provision of government funding under the Queensland Kindergarten Funding Scheme, the Queensland Government remains committed to ensuring that teachers delivering a funded kindergarten program are four-year qualified early childhood teachers or registered teachers with an early childhood qualification.
If you already hold an early childhood teaching qualification, you may be recognised as an early childhood teacher suitable to deliver an approved kindergarten program.
At present, an approved kindergarten program must be delivered by a person who meets one of the following options:
Option 1. A person who holds a four year early childhood teaching qualification in accordance with the Education and Care Services National Law and sections 137(1)(a) or 137 (2)(a)(i) of the Education and Care Services National Regulations.
Option 2. From Education and Care Services National Regulations 241 (1)(g): A person is taken to hold an approved early childhood teaching qualification for the purposes of these Regulations if, immediately before the scheme commencement day, the person - was registered as a teacher under the Education (Queensland College of Teaching) Act 2005 of Queensland and held a qualification that is published under regulation 137(2) in the list of former qualifications approved as diploma level qualifications.
Option 3. From Education and Care Services National Regulations 241 (3): If immediately before the scheme commencement day, a person who was registered as a teacher under the Education (Queensland College of Teaching) Act 2005 of Queensland was enrolled in a course for a qualification that is published under regulation 137 (2) in the list of former qualifications approved as diploma level qualifications, the person is taken to hold an approved early childhood teaching qualification for the purposes of these regulations:
Option 4. This option is only available until 31 December 2013.
From Education and Care Services National Regulations 241 (4): If a person who, immediately before the scheme commencement day, was registered as a teacher under the Education (Queensland College of Teaching) Act 2005 of Queensland commences actively working towards an approved diploma level qualification on or before 31 December 2013, the person is taken to hold an approved early childhood teaching qualification for the purposes of these regulations:

For services operating under the Child Care Act 2002 (i.e. excluded from the National Quality Framework), an approved kindergarten program is to be delivered by a person who meets one of the following options:
Option 1. A four year qualified early childhood teacher who holds an early childhood qualification that meets the requirements of the Child Care Act 2002 and sections 113(a) to (c) or 114 of the Child Care Regulation.
Option 2. A teacher currently registered with QCT who holds an approved two or three year early childhood qualification that meets the requirements of the Act and sections 113(a) to (c) or 114 of the Child Care Regulation.
Option 3. A primary teacher who has full registration with the QCT and who is studying towards an approved two or three year early childhood qualification that meets the requirements of the Act and sections 113(a) to (c) or 114 of the Child Care Regulation.
You can apply to be recognised as a kindergarten teacher at any time whether currently working or seeking employment using the application form provided below.
If successful, you will be issued with a Letter of Recognition with a unique identifier. This letter allows eligible teachers to confidently seek employment as a recognised kindergarten teacher, enables portability of recognition and can be used to support a service's application for funding under the Queensland Kindergarten Funding Scheme.
It is also important to note that once employed as an early childhood teacher delivering an approved kindergarten program, your experience can be recognised by the Queensland College of Teachers
for moving from provisional to full registration and for the renewal or registration process.
