

Working in early childhood is a rewarding profession. Quality early childhood education gives children a flying start, helping to develop literacy, numeracy and social skills in the years before Prep.
Major reform and government investment is leading to considerable growth and career opportunities in early childhood.
By 2014, the Queensland Government has committed that all Queensland children will have access to a kindergarten program. This will be achieved through the establishment of extra kindergarten services in areas where they are needed most, and by making funding available for long day care services to deliver kindergarten programs. In addition, under the National Quality Framework(NQF) more educators will be required to educate and care for children through the introduction of improved educator-to-child ratios from 2016 and improved educator qualification requirements from 2014.

The gradual introduction of the changes under the NQF means there is an opportunity for existing workers to upskill, and for new entrants to join the early childhood profession. The demand for early childhood educators will also mean greater career opportunities for qualified educators with a passion for working with children.
These reforms of the early childhood sector will ensure that all Australian children, regardless of their location, will get the best possible start in life through access to high quality early childhood education and school age care services.
