Under the National Quality Framework, 50% of all educators working in long day care and kindergarten services must hold (or be studying towards) a Diploma level qualification or higher.
In order to help the ECEC sector meet this improved qualification requirements, the Queensland Government has formed an agreement with the Australian Government to waiver TAFE tuition fees for the Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Children's Services until 2014, though minimal course resource costs still apply.
This will allow current and prospective educators to upgrade their skills to meet the new national qualification requirements
.
Currently, early childhood educators with a Diploma in Children's Services are qualified to work as a group leader in an early childhood education and care service.
The Advanced Diploma in Children's Services, while not formally required under the national reforms, provides further training in leadership and management in early childhood education and care and is currently required to undertake the role of qualified director.
