People currently working or volunteering in early childhood education and care may be fast-tracked towards a formal qualification through recognition of prior learning (RPL).
RPL recognises skills and knowledge gained from work, life experience and other qualifications against the course in which a student is enrolled.
Through RPL, students may be fast-tracked towards some of the units in their course, reducing the time and possibly the cost it takes for course completion. All RPL processes are managed and applied by registered training providers.
An RPL process usually incurs a cost, but there are options available such as visiting a Skilling Solutions Queensland
service, which may be able to support an RPL process for those people working in an early childhood education and care service who do not already hold a qualification.
Additionally, the Queensland Government is subsiding RPL for some units of the Certificate III in Children's Services for eligible family day care educators as part of the Family Day Care Training Strategy.
For more information on the RPL process please visit the Department of Education and Training's website
.
In May 2011, the Australian Government announced $9.2 million worth of new recognition of prior learning (RPL) related initiatives to improve the upskilling process for early childhood workers across Australia.
This RPL package will make it easier for early childhood workers to obtain or upgrade their qualifications.
