The National Quality Framework (NQF) introduces new national educator-to-child ratio and qualification requirements for the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector. This provides an opportunity for people currently working in early childhood to upgrade their skills and recognise the important role early childhood services play in laying the foundation for a child's future success.
The following opportunities are available for current educators to fast-track their training:
Early Childhood Teacher Scholarships - staff currently employed in licensed centre based early childhood education and care services with a three year university degree or advanced diploma qualification can upgrade to teach an approved kindergarten program and gain registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.
Recognition of prior learning - be assessed more quickly to achieve a formal qualification through a RPL process managed by a registered training provider (Federal RPL package for ECEC)
Family Day Care Training Strategy - eligible family day care educators can receive up to five fee-waived units of recognition of prior learning towards a Certificate III in Children's Services.
Productivity Places Program - provides a funding contribution for new and existing workers to undertake free early childhood training or commence a traineeship and apprenticeship in children's services.
TAFE Fee Waiver Program - fees for the Diploma in Children's Services have been waived until 2014. Some competencies in the Certificate III are included as prerequisites of the Diploma qualification.
Leadership and Professional Development - programs for existing and emerging leaders in the sector and professional development activities for the broader workforce.
