Working with the Sector

The Department of Education and Training is responsible for providing high quality, integrated early childhood education and care services for all Queensland children from birth to 12 years.

In order to ensure Queensland children enjoy the flying start to life they deserve the Department is:

working to ensure all Queensland children can access a high quality kindergarten program in the year before they start Prep. The Department is consulting with and working in partnership with stakeholders to develop and implement Queensland's plan to achieve universal access to kindergarten programs.
leading Queensland's input into the national early childhood reform agenda that is being progressed through the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), including initiatives such as early childhood development, Indigenous and health reforms.
regulating and licensing early childhood education and care services in Queensland.

The Queensland early childhood education and care sector has a vital role to play in shaping and implementing the government reform agenda.
