National Disability Insurance Scheme Information

The NDIS is being rolled out by one national agency - the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). The Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services is coordinating the transition to the NDIS with other Queensland Government departments.

Early childhood service providers have an obligation to make reasonable adjustment for children with disability, regardless of their National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) eligibility, under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 External Link.

Current Disability Support Programs

Children receiving an NDIS package are eligible for disability support programs delivered by the department including the:

Long day care and family day care services should seek information about the Australian Government's Inclusion Support Program External Link for children receiving NDIS packages.

Resources and support for NDIS readiness and inclusive practice

Professional development programs for educators working with children with complex additional need are available through the Early Years Connect External Link website.

The department is developing a suite of NDIS resources for early childhood services and educators, including access of external support professionals and other information sheets to support NDIS readiness.
