Becoming an approved kindergarten program provider

The Queensland Kindergarten Funding Scheme makes government funding available in a range of service settings including community kindergarten services, services operated by non-state schools and long day care services that provide an approved kindergarten program.

To access funding under the Queensland Kindergarten Funding Scheme, kindergarten services are required to be approved as a kindergarten program provider and to become a member of a central governing body.

'Kindergarten services' refers to services that provide a kindergarten program and are not approved to receive Australian Government Child Care Benefit on behalf of eligible families. These services typically operate during school terms and provide a part-time early education program delivered by qualified early childhood teachers for children in the year prior to Prep.

Services that receive the Child Care Benefit on behalf of eligible families are long day care services. Long day care services can apply for funding to deliver a kindergarten program at any time throughout the year.

Long day care services approved as kindergarten program providers are required to enter into a service agreement with the Department. Long day care services are not required to hold membership with a central governing body.

The Kindergarten Programs in Queensland fact sheet Adobe PDF document 202k provides kindergarten services that have not previously received Queensland Government funding for their kindergarten program with helpful information on accessing funding under the Queensland Kindergarten Funding Scheme.

Information on how legacy-funded* services can successfully transition to become approved kindergarten program providers is available online.

Further information is available on the funding and requirements of an approved kindergarten program.

Kindergarten services that deliver a learning program that currently meets the Queensland Government criteria or that will meet the criteria from January 2012 can apply now to become an approved kindergarten program provider by completing the application form Microsoft® Word document 252k.

A completed and signed original application form should be posted to the address listed on the application form.
