Free interpreting support for kindergarten services

The Queensland Government is working to ensure all children no matter where they live or what their circumstances can enjoy the lifelong benefits of kindergarten programs.

To support the kindergarten participation of children from non-English speaking families, the government is funding free access for kindergarten services to the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS).

This Australia-wide service is operated by the federal Department of Immigration and Border Protection and employs interpreters who speak more than 170 languages and dialects.

Interpreters can help kindergarten services to:

Kindergarten services will need to contact their central governing body for more information on requesting or booking an on-site or telephone interpreter. Subsequently, services can visit Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) National, fill in an on-site or telephone interpreter pre-booking form and submit it online or by fax, or phone 131 450 toll free, from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
