The Queensland Government supports kindergarten services to provide inclusive programs that reflect their community's diverse needs, including those of children with a disability.
From 2012, the Department of Education and Training is replacing the Non-School Organisations (NSO) Program for kindergarten services with the Disability Support Funding (DSF) Program. The new program makes funding available to all kindergarten services and has a simpler administration process.
Applications for Round 1 of the DSF Program closed on 16 March 2012.
A limited second round of the DSF Program will be considered for children who receive a diagnosis from a recognised specialist or enrol in a kindergarten program on or after 12 March 2012.
Applications for these children must be received by DET no later than 27 July 2012.
Kindergarten services can apply for funding under the DSF program to support children with a disability to participate in their approved kindergarten programs.
Services can access between $2,000 and $6,000 for teachers to make educational adjustments to their kindergarten program so children with a suspected or diagnosed disability can participate.
Central governing bodies will distribute funding to their member services. They will also collect expenditure reports from services and provide a consolidated DSF expenditure report to the department.
Long day care services with an approved kindergarten program can access funding for children with a disability through the Australian Government's Inclusion and Professional Support Program. Queensland services are encouraged to contact Professional Support Coordinator Queensland
.
Kindergarten services are required to submit applications for funding under the limited second round to the Department of Education and Training via email, post or hand delivery by close of business on 27 July 2012.
