The two approved learning frameworks are key components of the National Quality Standard
. This includes the Early Years Learning Framework
(all long day care, family day care and kindergarten services) and the Framework for School Age Care
(all outside school hours care services, and any long day care or kindergarten services with school age children).
These learning frameworks describe the principles, practice and outcomes essential to support and enhance young children's learning from birth to 12 years of age, as well as their transition to school.
The frameworks place a strong emphasis on play-based learning as the best vehicle for young children's learning, providing the most appropriate stimulus for brain development. The frameworks also recognise the importance of communication and language (including early literacy and numeracy) and social and emotional development.
There are a number of supporting guidelines for Queensland services including the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline, Foundations for Success (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities) and other aligned programs which provide additional advice for services in implementing the Early Years Learning Framework in certain contexts.
