The NQS is divided into 7 areas that contribute to the quality of early childhood education and care:
The National Quality Standard is accompanied by a rating and assessment process for all services across Australia.
Services will be assessed on their performance against each of the 7 quality areas (above) and given a rating for each area as well as an overall rating.
Ratings of assessed services are published on the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority and MyChild websites. Services must display their ratings.
The availability of this information will help parents to understand a service's quality and to find one that best meets their needs.
Services will receive 1 of the following overall ratings:
Exceeding National Quality Standard
Meeting National Quality Standard
Working Towards National Quality Standard
Significant Improvement Required
We anticipate most services will be rated as one of the following:
These services are meeting minimum legislative requirements to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of children and are encouraged to continually improve the quality of education and care.
The Queensland Government monitors all services to ensure they meet their legal requirements, regardless of whether they have been assessed and rated.
Until your service is assessed and rated, it is considered Provisional-Not Yet Assessed under the National Quality Framework. This rating 51K must be displayed at the service.
