The Office for Early Childhood Education and Care (the Office) is committed to providing Queensland children with the flying start to life they deserve.
Established on 1 January 2009, the Office is responsible for the strategic management and implementation of early childhood reforms, coordination of early childhood education and care programs, regulation and supporting quality improvement for all early childhood education and care services in Queensland and working with stakeholders and service providers to meet Government goals, commitments and targets.
The establishment of the Office recognises the intrinsic link that exists between early education and child care and brings together responsibility for both under the one agency for the first time.
The immediate priority for the Office is to ensure all Queensland children can access a high quality kindergarten program in the year before they start Prep by 2014. The Office is consulting with and working in partnership with stakeholders to develop and implement Queensland's plan to achieve universal access to kindergarten as measured by 95 per cent of kindy-age children enrolled in an early education program by mid-2013.
The Queensland Government is working with all Australian Governments to deliver national reforms and joint initiatives, including a National Quality Framework for services, early childhood development initiatives and Indigenous and health reforms, aimed at providing all children with the best start for life and learning.
The Office is also responsible for approving, licensing and regulating early childhood education and care services in Queensland.
