Directions and priorities

In order to ensure young Queenslanders have access to world class early childhood education and care, the Department of Education and Training is implementing a range of groundbreaking initiatives and reforms. These include:

Making kindergarten accessible for every child - This five year plan outlines how the Queensland Government will provide every Queensland child with access to a kindergarten program.
Improving the quality of Queensland early childhood education and care services - Families can now access information about Queensland services, staff and safety issues as a result of new regulations.
Funding community organisations to provide early years centres and services to support Queensland families
Strengthening Indigenous early childhood development in Queensland
Driving national reforms in Queensland - The Department is working with the Australian Government to deliver national reforms and joint initiatives aimed at providing all children with the best start for life and learning including:

The Department is also responsible for approving, regulating and licensing early childhood education and care services in Queensland. The Department can assist with:

NQF approvals and certification
Child Care Licensing for services excluded from NQF, but captured under the Child Care Act 2002
Early Childhood Information Service
Early Childhood Funding Programs
