Limited hours care is provided in a range of settings on either an hourly basis, or for short periods of time for parents who need time to attend appointments, take care of personal matters, undertake casual or part-time employment, study or have temporary respite from parenting.
Limited hours care centres provide care for up to 30 children at any one time and are licensed as centre based care services and must comply with the legislative standards under the Child Care Act 2002 and the Child Care Regulation 2003.
The services provide care for children from birth to school age.
Parents will need to check with individual service provider to find out the hours, days and weeks of operation.
Programs are designed and implemented by staff who are required to hold relevant qualifications specified by legislation.
Almost all limited hours care centres in Queensland are community or government managed.
