Remote Area Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Care (RAATSICC)

The RAATSICC program was established in 1991 to deliver early childhood education and care and family support services in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities within the North Queensland and Far North Queensland Regions. The aim of the program is to promote and support the well being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children within their extended family and cultural community and to ensure that early childhood education and care services in remote Indigenous communities are developed in accordance with community needs and aspirations and comply with relevant legislation and standards.

The RAATSICC program embraces a wide range of local community approaches to child care and its success relies on community participation and decision making. The RAATSICC philosophy views early childhood education and care in a holistic way and includes programs that encourage the personal, social, developmental, recreational and cultural well being of children.

Since its inception, the program has established early childhood education and care and family support services in many Indigenous communities across the vast and isolated geographic areas of Cape York, the Gulf and in the Torres Strait Islands. The range of services developed includes long day care, child and family support hubs, outside school hours care, vacation care access programs, playgroups and children's activity services.

The RAATSICC Program provides funding for a range of child care and family support services through 31 Indigenous community organisations in communities in North Queensland and Far North Queensland.
