

Queensland Government funded limited hours care services offer care to 30 children or less at any one time and operate for 20 hours or less per week. Care is offered to children aged between birth and 5 years of age, on a limited hours or occasional basis. Families can access limited hours care regularly on a sessional basis, or irregularly, and the service allows the flexibility to leave children for a short period of time in an early childhood education and care environment.
Limited hours care services were developed in Queensland as an appropriate option to meet occasional needs of families primarily located in small rural and remote communities across the State.
FundedLimited hours care services are centre based services, and are required to be licensed under the Child Care Act 2002 (the Act). A service must meet the legislative requirements under the Act, including:
The Queensland Government funds 38 limited hours care services primarily located in communities which are rural, remote, small, or isolated and are unlikely to be able to support a standard size child care centre. The funding is intended to ensure services are able to remain affordable.
