The locations for extra kindergarten services are determined through detailed analysis of population forecasts and statistics on the existing supply of kindergarten and long day care services in a local area. This ensures that local demand exceeds supply in those areas chosen to provide an additional kindergarten service. The list of announced locations for extra kindergarten services is available here.

The priority is to co-locate extra kindergarten services on school sites, as it provides important benefits for children and families. For parents and carers who have children attending the school, enrolling their younger children at the co-located kindergarten service may make drop offs and pick ups easier. For children, transitioning to Prep may be smoother because they are familiar with the school environment.

Many of these co-located services will be on state school sites. Extra services will also be located on non-state school and existing community kindergarten sites.
