Minister announces Raising the Bar workshop details

Last week the Education Minister Cameron Dick provided further details of the Raising the Bar workshops External Link with almost 50 meetings planned across Queensland during Term 2 and 3. Each location will host three workshops' one each for local state school principals, teachers and P&C representatives to have their say on how we can continue to lift standards in our schools. Celebrating what's great about vocational education and training

This year's VET Teaching Conference will be held on 24 and 25 May at the Brisbane Convention Centre. The conference traditionally attracts up to 200 teachers, trainers, managers and support staff from TAFE Institutes and private Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). Day 1 will provide an insight into how RTOs are supporting their workforce to develop solutions to meet the challenges they face in the delivery of training in an environment of constant change while Day 2 will address the importance of quality teaching learning and assessment practices in developing a highly skilled and innovative workforce through the lens of the new tertiary landscape.

2011 Premier's Reading Challenge

This year, the Premier is challenging all state and non-state school students, from Prep to Year 7, to read more books and challenging texts. Schools can register for the PRC online until 27 May 2011. For more information, visit the Challenge website.

On behalf of the Department's Executive Management Group, I would like to wish all staff a safe and happy Easter/ANZAC Day break. If you're travelling over the break, please take care on the roads and take time to smell the roses on the way.

If you have any queries regarding departmental initiatives, please send them to the Inquiries Mailbox.
