Queensland schools App Queensland schools App

From Hebel State School in the south to Tagai College in the north, Queensland is home to 1235 state schools.

This Department of Education and Training application will help you locate your nearest school, and if necessary access contact details, enrolment numbers, directions, school website addresses and other related information.

All Queensland state schools are listed and you can filter results based on your selection as well as saving your favourite locations.

View the selected type of schools on the interactive map.

Search

Search by school name, town or postcode by typing into the search box.

Select this to Zoom out to the Queensland map view, Update the school data, to get directions from a selected origin and destination or to display text directions when a directions route is displayed on the map.

My locations

Lists all custom locations you have saved from schools to dropped pins indicating places such as your home, sports club or friends. To delete a location, swipe from left to right and select the "Delete" button.

Current location

From the Map view, select the Flag icon to zoom in to your current location (requires location services to be enabled).

Drop a pin

From the Map view, select the Pin icon to drop a pin on a custom location in order to get directions or save it as a custom location.

Select a coloured dot or flag in the map view to launch the school name and a blue arrow to view the school details.

School details

Select the blue arrow to view all available school details including the contact details, link to the web site, phone number and Principal's name.

From the school details page you can select "View" to zoom in to the school; "Nearby" to zoom out and see what other schools are in the area (note the filter is applied); "Save Location" to add the school to your custom list or to get direction "To here" or "From here".

If there are any issues with the App, the first thing to try is a 'Data Update'. To do this, select 'More...' then 'Update Data' (this requires an internet connection). If this does not solve the problem, you can lodge a request for assistance at the following link: apps.support@deta.qld.gov.au

Functions

Known issues

To ensure that you have the latest and fullest school data, first time installers should perform a 'Data Update'. To do this, install the App, then select 'More...' then 'Update Data' (this requires an internet connection). The App prompts you to update the school data every seven (7) days thereafter.

The App is not compatible with the EQ wireless network within schools.

This build (version 1.1) includes only state schools. An App that includes state, catholic and independent schools is planned for release in the near future.

Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.
Requires access to WiFi or mobile network for location services to work.
Requires access to the internet to update school data.

Q. How accurate is the school data?
A. School data is updated when it is first installed, then prompted to be updated every 7 days. If you notice information that is not correct for your local school, please make contact with the school to enquire about whether the school data needs to be updated.

Q. How much does the App cost?
A. It is free.

Q. How do I install it?
A. Follow the instruction on installing Apps from the Apple web site.

Q. Why can't the App locate me?
A. You may have location services turned off. Check that Location Services are turned on at the "Settings / Location services" and at "Settings / Locations Services / Queensland Schools". If they are turned on, it may be that you do not have mobile reception. Note: Location services only work on devices with access to either a WiFi network or mobile coverage.
